Ready!
Updated 3/28/03
Notice too, in both the pictures above
and the one here to the right, that her
leash is lose. This will give you clue to
her utmost desire to give full
attention and be ready for whatever
comes her way. This might be in the
form of a treat from the target hand
as shown, a light touch to her or the
chance to fetch her ball. Everything
surrounding her including the
distractions of others has been
blocked out by her choice.
Lights! Camera! Action!

In this photo above, we were on a busy
cobblestone street in the middle of a
downtown area. Again, Braille was
able to block out the many
surrounding distractions. In order to
bring her head to knee level, I was
behind the camera, snapping my
fingers at the camera level to get this
picture perfect.

"Ready" here means sit and stay or
wait. Again, Braille is well rewarded
for her work. Notice once again, she is
at free will for the lose leash.
Here Bubba (L) and Mr. Seamus (R) make camera level
eye contact. Whereas Braille has to rely on her senses of
smelling and hearing thus her head tends to point
upwards. What you again don't see in this picture is
Bubba and Mr. Seamus can see a handful of treats for
which they are focusing on, a target hand. Braille is
counting on her smell-a-vision and to be ready once again
for something good and rewarding.
I'm often asked by people, why does
Braille always point her head upward?
Well she really doesn't sell ceiling paint or
work for a weather forecasting service
when outside.

Actually, this gives her the maximum body
alert to her senses of smelling and hearing.

Back in her younger stages of obedience
training we used the word "sit".
Throughout her advancements that word
has taken on a new meaning of  being
"ready". Being "ready" means give me
your full attention.
There's a comical side to this article of being "ready" and ready meaning to tell the truth, no
matter what.
I heard the flight mode of something happening in the living
room and when I got there this is what I saw, one panel of
the curtain trashed. Upon entering the room, Mr. Seamus
was deep in sleep on his dog bed and most likely, he never
hear such a commotion, tone deaf he was.

Bubba was inside his kennel head to tail buried in deep
thoughts.

So I got all three dogs lined up sitting in front and asked
them what really happen. Bubba and Mr. Seamus both
claimed to be sleeping.

This meant all paws were pointing towards Braille. When
asked she swiftly explained without being guilty.

I think a thread got tangle on me and like a bucking bronco,
I started jumping around the room, you know how sensitive
my touch is. Little did I realize Mom's curtain was falling
apart. All I knew is that this monster thread, the more I
tugged on it, the more it tangled around my neck and collar.
The attacking thread seemed to be endless and soon the
spring loaded curtain rod popped off the window frame. It
fell, trailing me as I moved, freaking out, thus scaring me to
flight mode. When Mom found me my head was sticking out
of the gapping hole near the ruffle. It sure did mess my hairs
up, as I could NOT get away from it. So if this is to tell the
truth, it really did happen to me, sorry for the curtain.
