There is something very special in each one of us. We have all been gifted with the ability to
make a difference. And if we can became aware of that gift, we gain through the strengths of our
visions the power to shape the future. We each find our starfish or the puppy. And if we throw
our stars wisely and well, the world will be blessed by our gifts of giving, please stand by me.
The Starfish Story
A man was walking along the beach. Far in the distance, he could see a stretch of beach where
hundreds of starfish had washed up on the shore. As he got closer, he could see a young boy
picking up the starfish and throwing them back into the ocean, The man stood and watched. He
felt the futility of the boy's actions; there were so many starfish and only one boy trying to save
them. He shook his head and walked closer to the boy and the hundreds of starfish.
He watched again and finally he could watch no longer. He walked over to the boy and said,
Why are you doing that? There are hundreds of starfish and only one of you. What you are
doing is impossible! You will never save them all, and besides what difference does it make?"
The boy looked at the man as he picked up another starfish and threw it back into the ocean and
replied, I made a difference to that one!" After a moment the man too, bent down to pick up a
starfish and threw it into the water and safely beyond the breaking wave.
Like the boy and the man in the story, we can make a difference, one by one.

Puppies For Sale
A store owner was tacking a sign above his door that read "Puppies For Sale." Signs like this
have a way of attracting small children and sure enough, a little boy appeared under the store
owner's sign.
"How much are you going to sell the puppies for?: he asked. The store owner replied,
"anywhere from $30 to $50."
The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change. "I have $2.37," he said. "Can I
please look at them?"
The store owner smiled, whistled and out of the back room came Lady, followed by five teeny,
tiny balls of fur. One puppy was lagging considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled
out the lagging, limping puppy and said, "What's wrong with that little puppy?" The store owner
explained that the vet had examined the little puppy and had discovered it didn't have a hip
socket. It would always limp, lame and never be perfect or be able to run and jump and play with
you.
The little boy became excited, "That's the puppy I wanted buy!"
The store owner replied, "No, you don't want to buy that little puppy. If you really want him, I'll
just give him to you."
The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the store owner's eyes, pointing his finger,
and said, "I don't want you to give him to me. That little puppy is worth every bit as much as all
the other puppies and I'll pay you full price. In fact, I'll give you $2.37 now, and 50 cents a month
until I have him paid for."
The store owner countered, "You really don't want to buy this little puppy. He is never going to
able to run and jump and play with you like the other puppies."
To this, the little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted, crippled
leg supported in metal brace. He looked up at the store owner and softly replied, "Well, I don't
run and jump and play so well myself, and the little puppy will need someone who understands
him!"

HOW WILL YOU MAKE A
DIFFERENCE TODAY?
Sadly, we live in a disposable world. Time is money
and something just are not worth fixing to some
people for many selfish reasons or lack of
commitment. Sometimes you have to do whatever you
can, however little it seems.
Both of these stories parallel going above and beyond
that distances.
Giving and receiving life wisdoms don't come from a book, but by actual life experiences by
choosing how you as a person will make that bigger difference a possibility. A risk and chance
is always before you and the outcome can be measured, the give to get!
Second Chance Boxer Rescue is making that difference because of YOU! Everyone does what
they can and treasures every life saved. It sure made the difference for Bubba, Braille and Mr.
Seamus, once starfish and puppies too!
